Ministerial Meeting of the Salzburg Forum
On 20-21 September 2007 the Ministerial Meeting of the Salzburg Forum took place in Pleven (Bulgaria). Poland was represented by Mr. Wiesław Tarka, Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Interior and Administration.
Apart from the representatives of the Ministries of Interior of Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary and Croatia, in the capacity of the observer, the meeting was attended for the first time also representatives of Western Balkans countries as The Group of The Friends of Salzburg Forum established on the meeting.
The main issues discussed during the meeting were Security of EU External Borders, enhancing of FRONTEX capacity, EU Migration Policy and – as a external dimension – establishment of The Group of The Friends of Salzburg Forum.
Minister Wiesław Tarka informed about polish consciousness of responsibility for security of eastern EU external border, our support for FRONTEX and our contribution to RABIT and CRATE systems. Minister W. Tarka expressed hope that extension of Salzburg Forum of Western Balkans countries is just a first step in establishing The Group of The Friends of Salzburg Forum. Next, expected step is initializing the cooperation with Ukraine and Moldova, particularly in the subject of migration policy.
