Minister of the Interior and Public Prosecutor General on combating racism and xenophobia
Designation of prosecutors specializing in racially motivated crimes who would be available round the clock is the most important result of the meeting of Minister Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz and Public Prosecutor General Andrzej Seremet.
The purpose of the visit of the Public Prosecutor General to the Minister of the Interior was to develop a joint policy of fight against extremist circles.
“Combating such crime should be a priority for both prosecutors and the Police. We have sufficient determination to fight such crime,” said the Public Prosecutor General.
Andrzej Seremet declared that each regional prosecutor’s office would designate and publish the names of prosecutors dealing only with crimes motivated by xenophobia and racism. The prosecutors will be available to the Police officers round the clock, whenever there is a need for prompt actions, such as evaluation of evidence and its classification to press charges. The public prosecutor general also stated that educational activities in the form of workshops would be organised to exchange experience between prosecutors, representatives of the Ministry of the Interior and the Police. The aim of the workshops will be to harmonise the activities and streamline the information flow.
Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz strongly believes that these activities will be effective though this will take some time.
