As earlier announced by Minister Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz, the Ministry of the Interior sent a letter to the UEFA president Michel Platini. The Ministry of the Interior stated in the letter that it expected an active involvement of the UEFA and the Polish Football Association (PZPN) in the activities aimed at eliminating xenophobic behaviour from football stadiums.

The number of people applying for the refugee status in the first half of 2013 amounted to 10 407, thus achieving its record high. 93% of such applications were submitted for the first time, according to the data on the activities of the Office for Foreigners for the first 6 months of the year.
