Arrest of an international organised crime group draining bank accounts

As a result of intensive investigative and prosecution efforts, the officers of the Maritime Department of Border Guard in close co-operation with the officers of the Gdańsk Branch of the Internal Security Agency tracked down an international crime group involved in the widespread practice of draining bank accounts. However, only today could this information be revealed due to an intensive investigation.

On Tuesday (13 January) in Poznań a 26-year-old UK citizen and a 19-year-old British woman co-operating with him were arrested by both services. The criminals were just in the middle of draining bank accounts, using forged bank cards. They started the procedure immediately after arriving at Poznań Ławica airport and went to one of banks in Poznań straight away. They both managed to withdraw PLN 100 thousand in total from the bank treasury.

According to the Border Guard and the Internal Security Agency, these people are involved in using at least a several dozen forged bank cards in a number of countries.

On 16 January (Friday) the undertaken actions were continued with the participation of the officers of the Karpaty Department of the Border Guard and of the Kraków Branch of the Internal Security Agency. Two British citizens and a Pole involved in these practises were arrested. At the same time, in Gdańsk, two members of this group were arrested, British as well, who had arrived from London that morning. Thus, the number of the British gang members arrested reached 7 people against whom further proceedings were initiated by the Organised Crime Department of the State Prosecutor's Office.
