Major international criminal group crushed by Polish and German Services
On 23 September 2009 officers of Poland’s Border Guard and Germany’s Federal Police broke up an international criminal group dealing with human smuggling across the border. Under the European Arrest Warrant (EAW) Polish and German Services captured foreign nationals of Chechen descent in Poland, Germany and Austria for dealing with organising illegal migration. Among the apprehended was the mastermind behind the human smuggling racket and his partner in crime.
The Services have been preparing for the final swoop for three years, with the Polish Border Guard making efforts to uncover the group of human-smuggling organisers as the German Federal Police ran preparatory proceedings to eradicate the smuggling across the border.
Polish and German services tracked over 50 attempts to smuggle foreign nationals to Germany (over 500 people). As a result of the cooperation, the Court in Frankfurt am Oder ruled on the issuance of 16 arrest warrants (including 12 EAWs) and 37 search warrants.
This has been the largest-scale operation in the recent years.
