The Prime Minister said that after he had been informed about the theft while being at the Copenhagen summit, he had obliged all services, particularly the police, to treat the theft of the historic sign as a priority. He said that he had talked to the President of Israel Shimon Peres about this reprehensible incident and had assured him that it would be investigated promptly.
The Head of Government pointed out that the swift professional action of the police had ruled out any speculations on the Polish anti-Semitism and the inefficiency of our country. – Both Poland and the whole world waited for the results of this investigation - added Donald Tusk. The Head of Government also expressed his hope that similar incidents would not occur in future.
Those present at the meeting at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister included the Minister of the Interior and Administration - Jerzy Miller, the Head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister - Tomasz Arabski, the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of the Interior and Administration - Adam Rapacki and the Commander-in-Chief of the Police - General Inspector Andrzej Matejuk.
During the meeting, the Head of Government presented the policemen with gifts in the form of watches. In addition, the policemen who had been involved in the capture of the perpetrators and the recovery of the stolen sign received a cash award from the Minister of the Interior and Administration.
