Piotr Stachańczyk

Appointed by the President of the Council of Ministers to the position of the Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Interior and Administration, as of 20 November 2007. Graduated from the Faculty of Law of Jagiellonian University in Krakow with distinctions, completed his judge training with an examination in 1988; participant of crisis management course organised by the Department of State of the United States of America in Washington in 1990 and in Warsaw in 1991.

In 1985-1994 was an assistant professor at the faculty of Law of Jagiellonian University in Krakow; from may to August 1990 chief specialist in the Ministry of Interior; on the turn of 1990-1991 Director of the Cabinet of the Minister of Interior and in 1991-1992 Deputy Director of Social and Administration Department of the Ministry of Interior; from 1992 to 1993 Undersecretary of State in the Office of the Council of Ministers, including - as of March 1993 plenipotentiary of the Chief of the Office of the Council of Ministers; from 1993 to 1994 Deputy Director in the Citizen Affairs Department of the Ministry of Interior; 1994-1995 Deputy Director of the Consular and Emigration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and from 1995 to 1998 Director of the Consular and Emigration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; in September-November 1998 occupied the function of the Director of Legal and Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; in 1998-2001 Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Interior and Administration as Member of the Negotiation Team in the Negotiations of the Republic of Poland regarding the membership in the EU, was responsible got the “internal affairs" field; in 2001 was appointed plenipotentiary for the organisation of the Office for Aliens and Repatriates (currently Office for Foreigners); from 2001 to August 2007 – president of the Office.

Co-author of all Acts relating to the problems of migration, repatriation and citizenship adopted from 1997 by the Polish Parliament (the Sejm). Author of following publications: „Cudzoziemcy – praktyczny komentarz do ustawy o cudzoziemcach” (Foreigners – practical commentary to the Act on Foreigners), Warsaw 1998 and co-author of the book – „Cudzoziemcy – komentarz” (Foreigners – commentary), Warsaw 2005.
